The following seems to be true at least for lvls 1 through 10. Hopefully everyone would try this out anyway, but just in case.
A very effective and reliable way to collect some additional enhancements, is to look for orange and red solo fights on the way to/from missions. Most of the time an orange or red is in a group, but make sure you target everything and check - they do stand around solo once in a while and it's very worth taking them out if you can.
Certain Archtypes CAN definitely solo a red (and possibly two oranges) with the right inspirations, despite what the tutorial or manual says. And they almost always (if not always) drop a decent lvl enhancement, helping you hold out and not spend ALL of your inf on training enhancements. The exp is, of course, very nice as well.
