The Basics

Who are you and where are you from?
I am a father of 2 boys (11, 3) and a husband of 1. Jesse Lane, 34, from St. Louis, MO originally from Southern California.

Where does your username come from?
BishopDon…well, let’s see. I’m a big comic book reader and I love following the X-Men series. There were 3 characters from that series that I thought were the best ever, Gambit, Wolverine, and Bishop. I grew to enjoy following Bishop more so than the others (which is where the Energy/Energy blaster came from). His powers were just the best IMO. The best part of his powers was, he rarely used them. He would use his rifle and guns more so than his mutant powers. However, when he had to use them…watch out because he could do some damage. The ‘Don’ part was a twist from the Godfather (a good series). Who wouldn’t want to be a Don?

Why did you choose your avatar?
I think that is self explanatory. Bishop of the X-Men is just the best…and I really love the one that’s in my Sig line too.

I know you recently changed your long-standing avatar. What did the old one mean and why the change?
Hmmmm, you remember that huh...lol. Seriously, that held a personal meaning for me some years ago (yes, I kept it around a long time). When I was in high school and college, I used that avatar for everything PC related: papers, desktop images, etc. I used to have goals to compete in the Summer Olympics and that avatar symbolized to me that the world was always in the palm of my hands, and no feat was impossible to accomplish. I have long since curbed that desire, but it was a funny little avatar to keep around, but it is time to move on to bigger and better things.

How did you get into CoV?
I got into CoV well, I enjoyed CoH, which my best friend kept on me on a daily basis to join. He knew the types of games that I enjoyed playing and figured I would love this too. He was right. Now I find that I enjoy CoV more so than CoH. I think the Stalker set is best suited for personality. Quiet, somewhat hidden, controlled, poised and very dangerous if under estimated. CoV was a given when I heard about it being released. It was just a matter of time as to when I joined. Had to see if my PC could support it without any major upgrades (and luckily I have not had to make any! 512RAM yahoo!).

What other MMOGs do you play? Roleplaying or otherwise.
Actually, CoH was the first MMOG that I’ve played…unless you count DOOM, lol. That was the first game where I could play with friends over the net.

Are you a console gamer too, or just PC?
Console games used to be me. Could not get me off of them, ever. I still have my Atari 2600 somewhere in storage (I believe they can make a come back...lol). I own a PS2 and Xbox. I believe I’ve played just about every type of console game there was.

What's your favorite game of all time?
Wow, this is a hard one. CoV would have to be at the top. However, if we’re talking old school, I can say that Mortal Kombat was excellent. Then there was also Wing Commander (although I could not do those darned escort missions).

What kind of music do you listen to? Do you listen to it when you game or do you prefer the in-game music & sound effects?
I listen to almost all types of music. I just don’t like country western or heavy metal. It just depends on my mood what I listen to when I play. Sometimes I like the in game music and other times it’s a combination of anything. As long as it has a good tempo and sounds good when I’m on a killing spree, I’ll listen to it.

Favorite movie?
easy…Scarface

Say its 7PM and you're playing CoV. You get a major snack attack. What do you reach for or who do you call to subside your craving?
This is a no brainer…donuts will cure whatever craving you have. Just give me donuts and milk, and I’m good for the next 3 hour leg of that SF.

This or That

Chocolate or Vanilla?
Vanilla

Coke or Pepsi?
neither, blah, but to choose, Coke (it’s sweeter)

Yankees or Red Sox?
Sox (Go Cards!)

X-Box or PS2?
X-box

GI Joe or Transformers?
Transformers (who wouldn’t want to contort their body into something else?)

Chicken or Fish?
Chicken

Blonde or Brunette?
why choose? There’s enough love to go around

GM or Ford?
GM, Denali baby!

Rap or Rock?
Rap

CoH or CoV?
CoV

GW or WoW?
I’d have to say WoW, since I’ve never played either, heard more good things about WoW

Other Randomness

What's your favorite Archetype to play and why?
Stalker. Fits me to a T. I can totally relate to the Ninjitsu secondary as well. Makes the best Stalker IMHO

Are you an alt-aholic or do you focus on one (or two) main characters?
both. I have that darned addiction. I like to make concepts when they enter my head (some get played, some don’t) but I try to take at least 2 thoughts to the top level.

If you had control of Gameamp for a day, what would you do, change, add, delete, etc. Don't worry, you won't get in trouble if you decide to through a coup d'etat.
Muahahahahaha! I have power, control. First, I would…no wait, that doesn’t need to be changed. I know, I would….uh, that’s good too. I got it, I would….err, that’s covered as well. Darn it! You know, I wouldn’t change anything. Why would you touch something that is not broken. Oh, wait, the only thing I would include is a user guide in regards to how to send posts. It took me forever to figure out how to change the font, color, add links, etc. LOL.

If you lived in a giant tower shaped like a letter of the alphabet, what letter would it be? Explain if you wish. The letter J would be my tower. Well, seeing that my name begins with the letter J, and that’s what people call me, ‘J’. It just seems fitting I have a building to monument it. Besides, a nice tall J, the view would be nice at the top.

Here's where you show your creative side. Make up a question of your own and answer it. Yeah, so I'm lazy and make you do some work too. So sue me. Hop to it.

Self Question: What do you do when you’re not playing CoV (I can’t fathom that thought either)? Well, I’m glad you asked. Outside of my normal 9-5, and when I’m not beating the kids and abusing the wife, I’m a Martial Arts instructor. I’ve been involved in Martial Arts for the last 10 years and I’m currently a 2nd degree black belt (Tae Kwon Do). I also take KenJitsu (Sword) classes as well. I have aspirations of opening my own studio by the age of 40-45. I’m also the director of our leadership team. These are the up and coming students who show promise to be instructors. My job is to develop and groom them to embody the true essence of a black belt.

Great interview! It was a long wait, but worth it! Thanks for a look inside your life, Don.

good interview...umm donuts

Good to see inside the minds of one of our most... villainous members. Seriously, you deserve it, Don.

Although I'm surprised: You like Stalkers the best, but you most admire Wolverine, Gambit, and (of course) Bishop. I won't claim to know much about Bishop, but Gambit and Wolverine are both loud, brash, reckless, in-your-face type characters. Also, NONE of them (Bishop included) are really Stalker-like. More in the Brute/Corrupter range (to use CoV terms).

I just find it surprising.

Great interview. Nice to get to know the flag holder of the Top 5.

Malady

  BishopDon on 02/27/06 00:28

hey Exqusite, It's the hidden anger that's within them all. Remember, they were not always the 'hero' types. Wolverine was a manufactored assassin, Gambit a thief, and Bishop....hell, he worked for the government in a distant future. They all have their cunning, sneaky ways about them....just don't get them upset, cause you'll awake the sleeping beast within.

  michelle2785 on 03/22/06 14:21

Ahhh, now I get why you like Bishop. I always disliked when characters had awesome powers and never used them. But why isnt Cable on ur list? Heck, he has one of the coolest backgrounds in Marvel and him and Bishop are really similar as far as personality goes. Yeah, I know he looked stupid in the 90's, but he's Cable, come on...

  BishopDon on 03/23/06 13:05

Simple answer, Cable had issues with the use of his powers. In an alternate reality, Cable could/would be a god among gods. In the reality we know him, the Legacy virus he was infected with allowed the use of his powers to slowly kill him. He can use a little, minute fraction of them know and then, but no where near their full ability. However, Bishop makes a choice to use or not use his powers. He is usually the first to leap into battle and always comes out on top.

  Cr3ss3nt on 08/08/06 00:30

I want someone to interview me >_<

  Noxrider on 03/02/07 00:33

Wow, Don, that was interesting. Apparently, we have a lot in common about CoV: top choice for me is a /ninjitsu stalker, as well. I like being the sleek, silent killing machine that I am.

Anyways, good reading about you and getting to know you a bit better.

  Warpus on 09/03/08 07:18

Ahhh, a nice look into the one we call Bishop
