| Help with re-creating a Villain |
|
|

In the movie Hellboy, Karl Ruprect Kroenen is known as the muscle villain who does the main antagonists dirty work. He has dual flatblades and superhuman reflexes. I have been having a hard time trying to figure out how to make an at least half-way decent model of him in the CoV creator but i am not very skilled at it. I was wondering if someone could make a good looking version of Kroenen and perhaps post a picture of it in this thread.
For example purposes here are some pictures of Kroenen.

I am guessing that you mean just the 'look' of the character, and not 'what powers' because you already described them. You'd probably prefer Brute to Stalker; although, i would consider the movie character more 'stalkeresque'. As far as looks, or costume goes; I would say you start with the Slim or Athletic build and tweak the sliders to give him a more 'thin' than hunky appearance. Then go from there.
Dont hate me because I'm COLORFUL.

Nice work, Wyloc! I like it how you got two of them perfect in one shot. They actually look like a really cool new villain group they should introduce. Much, much, better than those horrible Romans.

Turtle Wax? I know I use Turtle Wax on ALL my robot toons. Keeps them shiny and new! Plus rain resistant... if it ever does rain I'll be ready.
Nice look for the toon. I don't think you could get much closer.

The whole idea of re-creating villains could be an interesting twist on a costume contest. For example a person would put down the villain with some pictures for reference an the first person to put up a decent/recognizable likeness would put up the next set of pictures.
First to Re-create "Jack of Blades" from the video game Fable.
Hows this for an idea. Lets see if this can catch on.[/B]

Fable's a fun game. Especially when you go on a rampage and kill all the guards in a town. I can't wait for Fable 2 to come out. Anyway, here's my attempt.
Obviously, he would be a villain, but I had to make him a hero to get the broadsword.

Sorry I didnt reply sooner...
The head is Full Helmets, Blast Bot I think. It is shiny. I did black on the sides, and grey on the secondary color. Googles and Raider Mask, I think.
The joys of Photoshop let you splice your character in twice! hehehe.
I think the body was tights, with a robotic skin. And i used the color scheme that went with it (by the same name) to make the chest piece gold. It ended up being sort of a combo of his two looks in the movie. Black trenchcoat, with the gold clockwork armor.
Cant do the hat though. The hat in the character creator looks kinda goofy on him! hehehe
I think I spend more time designing my toons than I do playing them. The character creator is the most fun part of the game!!! hehehe

Ok, this is off topic, but I thought I would share this toon I made. I often take a theme and run with it, even if the character isnt one that I would enjoy playing. In this case, it is a Dominator, which I dont realy like.
Captain Karen Olsen always dreamt of joining the Space Force. As a child she gazed into the night sky and imagined exploring new worlds. She worked hard, earning multiple PHDs, in Mathematics, Engineering, and Astronomy. She had to work twice as hard as her male counterparts in Space Force, and be twice as smart.
On her first command, her ship was sent to chart and explore the closest black hole to Earth, XM 389a. When her ship's systems began to fail, and her crew die one by one, her distress calls went unanswered. Space Force calculated the cost of a rescue would be higher than the cost of replacing the ship and crew...
Captain Olsen knew she would die in the crushing grip of the black hole. As her dying ship entered the event horizon, she flung herself out of the warped and torn hull. She would die seeing the singularity first hand...
But, she did not die in the singularity. She drifted in the vacuum of space, caught in the grip of distorted time and space. Eons passed....
Karen awoke back on Earth. She awoke with the knowledge of the true nature of the universe. She awoke with the power to control time and space, bending either to her will. She possessed the power to see past the crude froth of a person's mind, and stab deep into the essence of their existence.
And, she awoke with a burning hatred of those who abandoned her. Captain Karen Olsen died in the grip of the singularity, and Quantum Fluxx was born. The Earth will be crushed, and reborn, just as she was.
( A screenshot, with a little Photoshop retouching of course )

Funny you should ask...
When I heard of Hellboy 2 coming, I watched back the 1st one and suddenly found this idea for a dual blade/willpower villain that would not be medieval inspired or looking like any cliched fantasy character (enough of Drizzt Do Urden clones!).
I didn't play him much although he was fun to play with, and I think I got a much similar look to Kroenen's as he appeared in the movie's opening scene (your 1st pictire) :
head: hat military (low version)
face: argus with black skin all scales down except nose: all up but completely flat
detail 1: double monocle
body : trenchcoat, long, V cur with long sleeves
chest: Chaos leather
chest detail: double straps
belt: tactical 2
gloves: small shiny leather
lower: tucked in, baggy
boots: smooth, shiny leather
weapons: double falcata
then I simply hit the overall color button to black on black
Sorry, I have no clue how to post here any image I have on my computer ;-(
I made him on Guardian but I intend to move him to Victory where I have my Neo nazi VG (The Ubermenschen Korps)
Now, thanks to you, I have again this urge to let him loose again...

So is the point of this thread to help people breach the EULA or am I missing something here? Just pointing out that everything going on here may be contributing to the problem. Maybe not intentionally, but the fact is you're taking the likeness of copyrighted characters, recreating them, and then calling the creations your own. More or less anyways.
My two inf.

Quoted from the very first CoH guide 2004:
'' You're fine to pick a blue skintight body suit. You can even add red underwear and boots. but the second you put a big red ''S'' on your chest, you're fried''
That's why DC losts it's lawsuit against Fawcett Publications in the 40's concerning Superman and Captain Marvel similarities.
That's why Marvel couldn't make it's lawsuit stick against CoH hard enough to ensure a legal victory.
Sometimes, the line between copying and been inspired by may become thin indeed. But you can't copyright the concept of a super strong and invulnerable flying character in tights with a cape; only the specific look, story and name of it as awhole.
Even then... ''superman'' is now a common name; it's Superman, the red and blue caped flying godlike character with a distinctive S symbol on his chest, last survivor of a planet called Krypton, that is property.
Making a huge super strong invulnerable male character is not copying the Hulk; it's a common enough idea (giant, ogre, cyclops, wrestler etc); It's when you make him green-skinned with nothing but shredded purple pants that is copying... especially if you name him Savage Hulk or Ultimate Hulk or just Hulk.
All that being said, I myself have made a couple of ''inspired'' characters (like my above mentionned Todmeister but with it's own proper origin story) but I do enjoy most playing and meeting more original concepts (like the famous ''Captain Obvious'' and his unforgettable battle cry: ''hey! Look! Villains!'')

Exactly my point.
The title of this thread even says "re-creating a Villain". People here are trying to 'copy' each possible detail of the character from the previously posted picture. This fact can be easily drawn from the various conversations that have gone on throughout this thread. Furthermore, we can conclude that people aren't merely 'drawing inspiration' from these characters. Indeed, they are taking the facets that make these characters who they are and trying their best to reproduce them. Again, this is against the EULA and these characters are just asking to become genericked.
