Alone?
"Honey! We’re leaving!"
"I’m coming, I’m coming, hold on a sec."
Mom and dad are leaving for the town. Date is Friday the 20th October, 2006. My brother is at some camp with his friends so he won’t be back until Sunday. I’m all alone in the house the whole night. Its cold and windy, as a usual October day.
“Ok. We will see you tomorrow!”
Alone, at last.
I close the door, and walk into the living room. Turn on the TV, and sit down.
After a few shows and a few hundred commercials, I start to doze off.
A few minutes later, I wake up at the sound of light footsteps upstairs. Must be the wind..
I went out into the corridor so see what it was. I notice the painting next to me on the wall. Two children, a boy and a girl is on it. The little girl is looking into the floor so you can’t see her eyes. But the boy.. Is he looking at me?
Suddenly a small figure is standing in front of me.
"Cinderella! What are you doing here? Stupid dog. I thought you were a monster or something."
It was luckily just my dog.
Clack, clack. Clack, clack.
The footsteps! They’re still there! Cinderella turns around, looking suspiciously at the stairs to first floor. She quickly turns around and runs between my legs, into the kitchen. I’m too scared to go upstairs, so I close the door to the corridor.
I walk into the dark kitchen to look for Cinderella. Can’t see a thing, where’s the contact? There.
Click.
("She’s not here? Weird. Maybe she went outside into the backyard through the backdoor.")
We have a very big backyard. It goes all the way around our house, though our driveway and the shed are in one end, at the backdoor.
I open the backdoor, and before I even notice it, Cinderella flies from behind me and outside.
"Cinderella! Wait! Come back here you.."
I step outside to look for her.
Slam!
The door? Wait, no! Darn.. it’s locked.. and I don’t have a key.. but there’s one hidden somewhere in the shed.. I don’t even have a flashlight.
I put on some shoes from a rack outside and walk into the shed. It seems even bigger when its dark.
Click. Light. Much better. Its a very old light bulb, but it’ll do.
"There you are Cinderella. Come on girl, let’s go inside after I find the key."
She’s growling. At what? She’s under the table so I can’t quite see. I crouch to look under the table.
A dark hole in the wall. Iv’e never noticed that before.
Cinderella whimpers and runs outside. What’s that whirring noise? Something from inside the hole.. I look closer.
"...Daaaaddy.... daaaddy.. Daddy! Daddy!.... Wont you let me out..."
The light bulb blinks rapidly, and explodes into hundreds of glass shreds.
I trip and fall to my back. The hole. Something is looking at me from in there. My blood turns to ice. The key! Where is it, the old urn. Got it.
I slowly stand up, and back outside the door. Rush inside the house and lock the backdoor. Cinderella! I can hear her barking outside. I open the door and run into the backyard. There she is, in the dark, I can see her eyes. Looking at me?
"Cinderella.. what’s the matter.."
She.. smiles?
Suddenly a loud, ear-splitting scream deafens my ears. I fall to my knees.. a shadow.. in front of me.. i look up.
"No.. this.. isn’t real.. who are you?"
"We are. Not. Alone."
Everything turns black.
