The streets are filled with criminals. Getting double crossed by someone is an everyday occurrence around here. Everyone comes here to prove themselves. Bank robbery, car theft, kidnapping, hold ups, street fights, gang wars, we have it all here in Rogue Isle. A world of violence, pain and agony; it’s a Villains promise land. Being here means you do whatever it takes to be number one. It's funny... you look around and you realize that your next step could be your last. Who am I you ask.... I'm one of them.
My name is Van Diego. I do contract work throughout Rogue Isle. To make it you have to have contacts, your inside guys that have connections. You have to know someone that knows someone to get in the loop. I've been around for a while now, but it wasn't easy. It all started in Atlas Park I was a Hellion recruit. I was picked up at the age of 13 trying to break into a car near Atlas Parks City Hall. They sent me to the Zig trying to make an example out of me. The Zig is a maximum security prison for us "low lifers" that plague Paragon City. I called it home for 5 years. The Zig is located in the middle of Brickstown. I was awoken one morning to the yells and gun fire in the hallways. All hell was breaking loose so I took the opportunity make my run. Leaving my cell I followed a few others into a hole in the floor that lead to the sewers. As we made our way outside I could see Arachnos and Longbow Agents fighting all over the area. Things started to get rough as I took out a few Guards and Inmates as I made my way to the fence. I just started up the chain link fence when I was grabbed from behind and pulled to the ground. An Arachnos Wolf Spider Huntsman was standing over me. I started to get up and break his neck but his troops around made me think otherwise. He didn't say much, but what he said intrigued me. I can still here his words spoken so cold and direct. "Kalinda is looking for you." "I have been sent to make sure you get to her alive." I didn't know at the time who Kalinda was, but I was curious as to why and how she knew about me, so I went along. After stepping off the Flyer I was met by Kalinda herself. Little did I know Kalinda would be my gateway into Rogue Isle.
I spent time running small errands for her. The more I did the more she let me in on what was going on around the Isle. I wouldn't call it a friendship, but a mutual respect for one another was developed. After months of ridding Mercy of Snakes and Contaminated she decided it was time for me to move on. She gave me a name of a contact in Port Oaks, Mikey the Ear. She said Mikey was in on a few jobs and agreed to set me up on some...for a price of course.
Mikey is one of Rogue Isle best inside guys. If there is something going down he knows about. He set me up on a few small jobs like stealing a few books from the Circle of Thorns or shake down a few Skuls that owe him some money. Then he got a hot tip that Atlas Park Bank was about land a very large account in the name of Maxwell Settle. He is a big time investor in Paragon City and he is trying to buy up some of the properties in Kings Row to reindustrialize the area. Mikey told me my job was to relieve the Atlas Bank of its new financial burden. This was my big chance, and I knew I was going to need help, so I started putting the word out that I had a job and I would make it worth their time. I had a few dead beats hit me up about it, but they backed out. I was going to need my own crew to do this. I managed to hire some Thugs to help with the bank job, but I needed someone else I could rely on for this. Mikey told me he had done some contract work with a few others that were in a similar position as me and told me how to find them.
The list consisted of several names of criminals like myself. Names like Faye Tallity, Old School, Kaled, Xavier Black, and CarnEvil the Twisted. I didn't know much about any of these people, only that they were all here for the money. We arrived in Atlas shortly after the account was finalized so we waited to make our move. We agreed that we were here to make names for ourselves and that the only way to do that was with guns blazing. We hit the bank hard and fast taking out several armed guards, along with a few innocent bystanders. I could here the sadistic laughter of CarnEvil as he pumped a mailbox full of bullets. I caught myself laughing at him and thinking to myself,"Hey I kinda like this guy." There wasn't much left of the bank but there sure was a lot of money. We ended up in an old warehouse looking at each other and the pile of money in front of us. Old School spoke first saying "Now that was fun!" We sat around talking about who we were and how we made our way here. While we divided up our shares Faye and Xavier were talking about another bank job in Talos that Mikey had set up. Everyone started discussing the area, the layout of the building, how many guards were on which shift. We didn't think about it long before we decided to make at Talos Bank together. After a we pulled a few jobs together the newspapers started to take notice. We were described as ruthless and devastating. Eventually we were nicknamed The Devastators.
That's how I come to where I am today. I'm part of a gang on the rise and we are making our way to the top. Not many stand against us... for very long. Our name is feared all across Rogue Isle and Paragon City. We do it for the thrill and the excitement. Were not in it for the money anymore, but it sure is a nice bonus.
