Shivering Fire,
Scientifically they were correct, the creation of the world was a “Big Bang” but they are wrong all the same, when the lord, or who ever it might be formed this planet. He used fire, this fire was different then the fire mortals here are known to have mastered, no this fire had a mind, although this fire had the all consuming desire to full-fill its task, whether it be fueled by a divine will, or a chemical requirement. This fire grew content for a while in the cold recesses of space, it continued to consume, fueled by itself or a divine entity unknown, soon the worlds began to take shape from his efforts. As this fire watched these tiny shapes take form, these planets, fruits of his relentless devotion, he felt his energy wane, he found that once he could consume tons of matter, he could now devour very little. Although this change was small, he felt it, and he prepared himself, seeking to preserve himself, he retreated deep within the molten core of a planet, Shedding most of his proud flaming body with sorrow, he sought shelter. Within the safety of this now thriving planet, he could concentrate on what was draining him of his power. He felt his power leaking away, he could feel his power so close, yet it would not come back to him. It was on a fateful day near the day of Mid-Suns Morning that he felt his power so close to an area weak enough so that he may burst through the crust of the planet and catch a glimpse of what was stealing his power. In a furious betrayed rage he broke through the earth, with such anger the mountain he came through shattered to pieces. He then saw what was taking his power. As he understood through his endless years of existence, fire and warmth is the basis of all life, he found a small primitive ape. Other animals had indeed been stealing his power as well, as he had well known, but they took very little and it was always a short period before it was returned. These apes on the other hand lived for a time, a short time perhaps, but a lengthy time none the less, not mentioning the fact that they took more of his power then most of the other animals combined. He stared at the primitive ape as it cowered in fear and began to flee, among other things, he pitied its existence and crushed it. He felt that this species would never make it, it was with this assumption he retreated into the bowels of the planet and fell into a deep, fitful sleep. Now, as for mortals who sleep for hours, being such as these immortals rest for decades, possibly eons before awakening. All too soon, the fire woke from its fitful sleep to find himself extremely weak, almost frail. He then took a few moments to collect himself and felt it again, the pang of his long lost power, just outside his reach, sitting there taunting him. There was a difference though, as he peered sheepishly from his volcanic keeps across the land, these apes were not apes anymore. They were upright, intelligent creatures, after many years of watching, he learned, among other things that, they called themselves “Humans”. Soon after he felt a surge of power that felt of old. The kind of power that only comes from the magic’s and powers of creation. At that time he raced, using what little power he had to get to the spot as fast as possible. He felt the power fade, and divide. Two greater powers left among the humans, a lesser power sunk into the earth. He seized this thing, it appeared to have much power, although drained as it was from its earlier use. He grasped it. Feeling the surge of its power, its power bubbling in his fiery veins. He felt the power he had missed and awaited its return as a loyal lover, it flowed through his veins, although weak, he had the power to manifest himself into a human incarnation, this feat took much of his power and drained him greatly, so he fell once again into a fitful sleep as his Incarnation took form. Thus was born the Shivering Fire. Skylar Sorein was born, not with the soul of a human, but the soul of fire. Born to the parents Michelle and Kireen Sorein, it became apparent at an early age that Skylar not social, his furious temper and bitter hatred and envy made him a social outcast. The state of their child worried them, as this family was a family of those born with gifts. The mother Kireen was a psychic working for the Longbow organization of Paragon City in an undercover job in the Rogue Isles. Kireen, relating to Skylar’s problems as she knew too well what he was going through, tried to comfort him. It was not hard for Kireen to notice that Skylar was not like her. Soon after he hit adolescence his powers began to manifest. People would notice that in taunting him the area around his hands would shimmer with heat, sending the temperature around him to near lethal degrees, although he seemed unaffected. Others noticed that a bitter hatred would result in a bone numbing cold enveloping, sapping the very strength from them. Soon after this Skylar himself was feeling these changes. He found by funneling his temper into his palms fire would manifest itself for him and he could hurl it great distances. On another day as a person taunted him, he felt a bitter, ancient hatred of the person flowing through him, intending to burn the person, a bolt of sheer cold shot from his palm, upon impact the person seemed to shiver, convulse and pass out from the bone chilling cold. Throughout the following months Skylar honed his new found abilities and learned to control himself. Now a near emotionless machine, he worked through his days on a day to day basis. Then came a fateful day, it was cloudy, windy and rather warm for his tastes, the rumor of his powers had spread from that bully to be known and whispered about throughout the small town he now worked in, separate from his loathed parents. This day unknowingly he worked at his farm as a mob of men grouped outside his farm. At about noon they rushed in, taken by surprise Skylar was slow to react, and then in a near instant years of repressed anger and hatred was loosed throughout his body, a sleet storm manifested itself around himself and the men, a snowstorm began, he felt the men’s heat draining into him, then in one fell instant he released it all in the form of a devastating explosion. After catching his breath he surveyed what he had done, and it was minutes later that a detachment of Longbow that were patrolling the area got there and caught him in the process of recovering. They defeated him and brought him to the Zig, he spent many years here pondering the reality of the world, when, he received the message the fire had left for him, his dream put him standing in a chasm, the chasm was on fire, though the flames burned blue, the blue of ice, a godly figure, composed of pure flame told him “They, these mortals have stolen my power, they leech it from me day and night, go now my son, defeat them, kill them and reclaim what is mine, and as my power grows so shall yours, for we are one”. Awakening from this sleep he found himself in a cold sweat, then came the explosions, and soon, he was escaping in a prison break, leaving to full-filling his destiny, donning the title of The Shivering Fire, master of heat, not of fire, but of the heat that gave life…that could take it away…and so it begins…
